Digital Nomad Insurance by Country

Visa-linked insurance requirements vary a lot by destination. Here's what we've verified so far.

Insurance requirements for digital nomads aren't just about what a provider covers — in a growing number of destinations, they're a legal condition of your visa. This hub covers what we know so far. What to check for any destination

  1. Does the visa require insurance at all? Not all long-stay or digital nomad visas do — some countries only require it for specific visa categories (e.g. retirement visas).
  2. What's the minimum coverage amount? Requirements are usually stated as a minimum dollar or local-currency figure, and a policy below that threshold is likely to be rejected.
  3. Does the insurer need to be locally authorized? Some countries (Spain is a clear example) require insurance from a provider licensed to operate domestically — a foreign or international travel insurer, even a reputable one, may not qualify.
  4. Is travel insurance accepted, or does it need to be full health insurance? These are treated differently by some immigration authorities, and using the wrong category is a common cause of application delays.
